Who is Ted?

A friend of mine brought this peculiar division of United Airlines to my attention a few days before my trip. I saw advertising for it at the airport and I'm still wondering what the heck it's all about. The site claims that it is a more "personalized" airline with an Economy Plus section (which I suppose is the answer to Jerry Seinfeld's complaints about flying coach) and lower fares that take you to hot vacation spots. Even so, it still seems very strange to name an airline after a common nickname for Theodore and refer to it as if such a person actually exists.
