The end of an era

It may have worked wonders on peoples' waistlines for decades to come, but alas, the flaw has finally been exposed. All that saturated fat just wasn't going to cut and run.

THE company behind the low-carbohydrate Atkins Diet, which had Americans gorging guiltlessly on bunless burgers, has filed for bankruptcy protection.

...the low-carbohydrate diet fad fizzled out as health experts raised concerns over coronary artery disease — and Americans reverted to their traditional cuisine.

The only thing I'm afraid of now is that people will think it's okay to grab that extra bagel when they don't need it. As dumb as Atkins may have seemed to people like me that don't have a weight problem, it did serve to remind me that overindulgence in carbs without thinking about energy output is
not a good idea. Let's hope that in light of this bankruptcy, people don't forget that simple principle. Chances are, though, the waistlines are heading right back to where they were before.
